Wedgwood Majolica Boat Shaped Sardine Box and Cover, c1878, NEAR MINT
Description:
A beautiful Wedgwood Majolica Majolica Boat "Sardinia" Sardine Box and cover.
Modelled as a flat bottomed skiff called the Sardinia, the stern and prow, moulded with fish lying on a net, the cover finial as an anchor.
Size: Measures approx. 9 ¾ in. Long.
Impressed Wedgwood mark on base and registration diamond for 23rd May 1878. Hand painted pattern no. 2646.
Condition:
Pre-owned, in Near Mint condition for age, no chips, cracks or repairs, Very colorful, slight staining to the interior. Please preview all photos as they are part of the description.
*Antique pieces can show appropriate and expected signs of age consisting of crazing to the glaze and staining under the glaze. There are or can also have production related anomalies present commonly found in antique majolica which include irregularities in the application of the glaze as well as flecks of material caught in the glaze itself, all of which are mentioned for accuracy.
This Majolica Sardine BoatBox displays beautifully and would be a great addition to any Majolica collection.
