Today we are delighted to offer for sale a fabulous pair of Italian dog statues!
This classic and elegant pair dates to the 1950's and is so evocative of the glamorous Hollywood/Palm Beach Regency style. Both figures are finely crafted of Italian Faience/Majolica ceramic. The statues depict slender and athletic Whippets or Greyhound dogs, both elegantly seated on chartreuse tasseled pillows with roped borders. Both dogs wear a matching chartreuse collar with gold bells. The pieces are both marked on their bottoms "T1522 Made in Italy".
Pair presents well and is in very good vintage condition, with minimal display wear and patina commensurate with age. There are a few minor skips/chips to glaze. Both dogs have faint (and hard to notice unless one is up-close) and stable hairline fractures no doubt caused during firing in kiln - these minor flaws do not affect the structural integrity of the pieces. Pair sold as found. Please review all photos before purchasing.
