ANTIQUE ETRUSCAN MAJOLICA GRIFFEN SMITH & HILL "MAPLE LEAF" CAKE STAND/COMPOTE

Description

Antique Etruscan Majolica "MAPLE LEAF" Cake Stand or Compote, made by Griffen, Smith & Hill, and dates to about 1879-1880.  It is 9" in diameter and a little over 5" tall, and marked on the bottom with the incised "GSH" monogram mark(see photo).
Griffen, Smith & Hill of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, was the best known of the American Majolica manufacturers but was almost completely destroyed by fire in 1890.
This piece is in fantastic condition for its age - no chips, cracks or repairs.  There is some glaze crazing you expect to see in pieces this old.
